There have been a lot of news stories about the Sacramento theater director, who is Mormon, and his $1,000 donation to pass prop 8.  The New York Times reports on his resignation and further discusses the controversy.   The director said in a statement:

“I understand that my choice of supporting Proposition 8 has been the cause of many hurt feelings, maybe even betrayal,” Mr. Eckern said. “It was not my intent. I honestly had no idea that this would be the reaction.”

The story also reports that he has a Lesbian sister as part of his “proof” that he meant ho harm.  He said that he will donate an equal amount to a gay rights organization.
