The Salt Lake Tribune reports that a formal complaint has been filed against the Mormon church with the California Fair Political Practices Commission. It alleges that the church underreported involvement in the Prop 8 initiative.
The advocacy organization’s founder, Fred Karger, wrote in a letter – to FPPC and Attorneys General Edmund G. Brown Jr., of California, and Utah’s Mark Shurtleff – that the church “has been highly secretive about its massive involvement in the campaign, but we managed to piece together evidence of some of their more visible activities done directly to communicate with California voters.”
