Prop 8 & Mormon Prof Appropriated Pepperdine’s Name

Posted on 24 November 2008 by admin

It wasn’t only Barack Obama’s name that was used dishonestly by the Mormon backed Proposition 8 campaign. Pepperdine University is still feeling the fallout after the Protect Marriage campaign associated itself with the school in advertising, via a controversial professor at the school who just so happens to be Mormon.  Yes on Prop 8 discontinued the practice for a short time after the university objected, but then resumed using the name after testing showed that it improved viewer response.

LA Times: Debunking the Myths Used by Prop 8

Posted on 21 November 2008 by admin

Clever magicians practice the art of misdirection — distracting the eyes of the audience to something attention-grabbing but irrelevant so that no one notices what the magician is really doing. Look over at that fuchsia scarf, up this sleeve, at anything besides the actual trick.

No More Mr. Nice Gay

"No More Mr. Nice Gay" T-Shirt from StopTheMormons shop.

I’m sure many of you have seen the title of this post on signs at protests. I keep reflecting back on it as I read editorials and comments from people who say we should calm down, be nice and try to change hearts in the court of public opinion.  The Mercury-News says, “The gay marriage movement is at a crossroads. It can become more combative, or it can build on the support of the near-majority who came close to defeating Proposition 8. Building support clearly is the better path.”

Remember Who Made the First Blacklist Threat

Posted on 17 November 2008 by admin

Another reminder to folks who are outraged that No on 8 is calling out people. Before the election, Bill O’Reilly asked Sonja Eddings Brown if “you guys are really going to do that?” with regards to calling out people and organizations that support equality. She slips in a a shot at AT&T while defending their plan.

Prop 8 Proponents Threats to No on 8 Donors

Posted on 17 November 2008 by admin

Let’s not let this pass our memory too quickly.  You may recall that Proposition 8 sent out threat letters to donors to No on 8 demanding an in-kind donation to help put Prop 8 forward.  And now they are complaining about the No on 8 boycott and blacklist?

Layoffs at Focus on the Family after $500k Prop 8 Support

Posted on 17 November 2008 by admin

I guess this shows what the priorities of Focus on the Family are:

Focus on the Family is poised to announce major layoffs to its ministry and media empire today, just weeks after the group pumped more than half a million dollars into the successful effort to pass a gay-marriage ban in California.  Critics are holding up the layoffs, which come just two months after the organization’s last round of dismissals, as a sad commentary on the true priorities of ministry.

Parents Object to Prop 8 Using Kids Images

Posted on 16 November 2008 by admin

This is a press conference that occurred during the campaign where the parents of the children being used in the infamous “San Francisco Field Trip” commercial by Yes on 8 object to their kids being used in the propaganda.  They explain the TRUTH: that parents were asked for permission and indeed two families did not allow their children to attend.  A principal explains more about the strength of California’s parental opt-out laws.

Video Analysis of “Cross Stomping” Incident

Posted on 16 November 2008 by admin

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

I’ve slowed down the video of the infamous “Palm Springs Prop 8 Cross Stomping” incident to watch it very closely and see exactly what is happening.  The original video is being circulated among our opponents to say that WE are out of control.   I think you’ll see here that the old lady, Phyliss Burgess, in this video was the one who set out to stir things up.

Elton John and Civil Unions vs. Gay Marriage

Posted on 15 November 2008 by admin

I just got an email from my mother saying that Elton John comments from USA Today are being circulated among her Mormon friends.  Looks like the Yes on 8 campaign is using them to try to raise more money.

Of course, I wish he hadn’t said such things.  My guess is that these were a few off the cuff remarks on the red carpet and they do not fully explain where he stands.  Further speculating, I’m thinking he’s one of our gays who finds it undignified to aspire to or assimilate with anything hetero.

“They don’t have a right to blacklist and boycott our supporters”

Posted on 14 November 2008 by admin

Seems like the press conference by our opponents went off without too much of a blip in the media, as far as I’m seeing on the web.  Did you see anything on the news?  Please comment.

I don’t know where they get off saying we don’t have the right to blacklist and boycott.  I doubt I’ll be seeing many of them dining at Hamburger Mary’s anytime soon.  Likewise, I don’t want to be in the midst of creepy, perma-smile wackos who pity me as a sinner as they gloat about their win.  And then use the profits from my patronage to further injure me.

Targeting Mormons Unfair?

Equality California estimates that Mormons donated as much as $20 million to Prop. 8, while the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal group, gave $1.25 million to the effort and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, $200,000.
